Many over-the-counter skin care products contain ingredients that pause potential health risks that go beyond your skin. They interfere with hormones, cause allergic reactions, reproductive harm, and even worse, cancer

Unprescribed Products

Below are some of the common ingredients that pause danger.

Sulfates

Used as foaming agents in cleansers & body washes.

Danger: Skin/eye irritation & may contain carcinogens (cancer-causing agents).

Hydroquinone in some Skin Lighteners/Brighteners

Danger: Skin irritation & potential carcinogen. 

Sulfates

Formaldehyde & Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives

Often used as preservatives in shampoos, body washes & anti-aging creams.

Danger: These are known to causes skin irritation, allergies, & cancer risk.

Parabens

Often used as preservatives in moisturizers, cleansers & sunscreens.

Danger: These mimic estrogen; linked to hormone disruption, reproductive issues, and possible breast cancer risk.

Heavy Metals (e.g., lead, mercury, arsenic)

Found in some lipsticks, eyeliners & whitening creams.

Danger: Linked to cancer.

Formaldehyde

Fragrance/Perfume

These are added scents to most products.

Danger: Many contain chemicals, like phthalates and allergens linked to allergies & hormone disruption.

Phthalates

These are used as fragrance fixatives in lotions, perfumes & nail polishes.

Used as thickeners in creams.

Danger: May contain carcinogens.

Triclosan & Triclocarban
